Last night I came home after another long day of work, and I was completely exhausted, hungry, and a bit moody. I walked through the door and was greeted by my beautiful wife playing in the floor with our son. As I went upstairs, I had to take a moment to just stop and thank God for all He has blessed me with, and that even when I am not in the best mood and when I am tired, that He has given me a wonderful place of refuge to retire at the end of the day. Don’t you just wish you could take that feeling of rest, comfort, and joy you get at home, and be able to apply it into every sphere and arena of your life? Well the truth is, YOU CAN! Now I know I sound like a salesperson there, but I want to show you where and how you can find this constant place of refuge, and I promise it provides greater amenities than even the greatest of homes could ever dream of.
The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him. Nahum 1:7
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. – John 14:26-27
Beloved, are you tired and weary, have your burdens become too much? Is your home here on earth a place of chaos? Are you looking for peace, joy, and rest? The truth is, it is only found in one place, and that is at the foot of the Cross. Only God can provide these elements. I sincerely and humbly ask you to come to Christ today, let Him be your place of refuge. He left His Spirit so that you could always feel the warmth of His love, and the comfort of His presence no matter what you are going through. The Scriptures tell us in Psalms 30:5, “…Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes in the morning.” This joy comes when you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ who is our ultimate refuge and strength. It reminds me of an old hymn I use to sing as a young boy in church, it has a simple tune, but a profound message:
At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light,
And the burden of my heart rolled away,
It was there by faith I received my sight,
And now I am happy all the day!
I offer you refuge today, and His name is Jesus Christ, and that it is in Him, and through Him that all sorrows and pain shall be wiped away. The ground at the foot of the cross is level; no man stands higher than the next. Grace is a gift without comparison. Will you accept it right now?
